Elsyn was the hardware and software designer of an innovative resistance temperature detector (RTD) measurement module for the Allen-Bradley SLC-500 small programmable controller (PLC). The SLC-500 1746-NR4 module reads an RTD input and outputs to the SLC-500 processor either a reistance value or a linearized RTD temperature reading. Readings can be taken for any of 12 standard RTD types or four potentiometer input types and are accurate to rigid tolerances.
Elsyn's involvement in the project began at the product definition stage and continued until final product manufacturing certification. Elsyn generated all specifications, test plans and documentation in accordance with Allen-Bradley's ISO-9000 requirements.
Elsyn was responsible for all of the hardware design, software design, hardware testing, software testing and product functional testing. We successfully coordinated with Allen-Bradley's CAD and manufacturing departments to bring the product to market on time and within budget.
Elsyn was able to utilize innovative design techniques to improve module speed and accuracy. One such technique allowed the module to be automatically self-calibrated at the factory, with the calibration results stored in an on-board non-volatile random access memory module (NOVRAM). This eliminates the need for user calibration.
Elsyn's involvement in the RTD module project enabled Allen-Bradley to get a product to market that was technically superior to their competition in speed, accuracy and cost. Elsyn was able to successfully work with the customer to provide comprehensive design services that delivered the product on time and within budget.
